Maria was born into a family of creatives. Her father a cellist, her mom a dancer, she grew up behind the scenes, in the studio and on stage. She was trained as a ballet dancer at Palucca University and started acting from a young age. When she was 15 years old, Michael Haneke cast her as Klara in “The White Ribbon”, this role won her a German Academy award and transformed her life. Since then, she has established a remarkable body of work, with movies like “Graduation” by Cristian Mungiu or as the blind pianist protegé of Anton Mesmer in “ Mademoiselle Paradies” by Barbara Albert. Lately she could be seen alongside Saoirse Ronan in “Mary Queen of Scots” .
